A traditional pasteli producer reveals her story


Moved by our love for the traditional family business that dates back to 1924 here in Zevgolatio, Messinia, and assisted by our team, we are trying to preserve and promote local tradition with a modern and fresh approach. Pasteli is an invigorating sweet snack, rich in Vitamin E, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and iron. Its history goes back to Homer’s Iliad.

The secret of pasteli lies in its art: each product is made by hand; sesame is only slightly browned, so it doesn’t taste like burnt; the ingredients are mixed at a specific temperature and the mixture is cut after it becomes cold and flexible; finally, it is properly stored at a steady temperature – in the summer, five minutes in the fridge are enough to make it firm – and always vertically, to keep its form. “We taste every pasteli that comes out before anyone else. It is our passion”.
