    2. - After a long and professional research regarding the greek food and cuisine I can tell you that the spontaneous answers in your question from the consumers in several countries were "authentic", "natural", "feta", "greek salad"...they really don't understand the greek food as a concept but as few recipes, ingredients and an "unprocessed" production. There are a lot of things need to be done in order to reposition the greek food abroad. The concept is necessary at this phase.

    3. - Mediterranean diet – natural health food straight from mother nature; the only additive being the Greek cooking expertise.

    4. - Juicy, Tasty, Real, Unique. It's no wonder tourists get hanged up on it but I do think we need to make greek food more known. Personally what comes to my mind when I hear Greek food is a juicy salad with tomatoes from the gardsn, lots of herbs like parsley etc and the smell of summer.

    6. - "I think there are some fantastic opportunities within the Greek food and beverage industries. Greece has amazing natural products and resources that unfortunately are being severely undervalued and exported to other countries only to be repackaged and sold for much more. The quality of the products (oil, cheese, wine, etc) is undoubtedly there; I really think the problem is in the lack of exposure and marketing of these goods.

Greece has had quite a few PDO's and PGI's granted and recognized through the E.U. and producers should be increasing this awareness to drive recognition and value. In addition the newly minted parity between BioHellas or DIO with the USDA makes it much easier to get certified organic labeling stateside."

    7. - I worked for two seasons with Greek tablegrapes (early season from Crete and late season from Kavala) and this produce was far superior to any grapes from Spain and Italy. The long, dry summers-autumns favor Greek fruit production tremendously.

    9. - I love Greek food, when I go on holiday to Greece I never think of ordering anything English, but it is different when i visit other countries. I also love to bring back the herb mixes to make the meals back home.

    10. - I personally love Greek Food. The problem with putting it in stores is a little different as many stores want as much as possible with the circle U certification being Kosher even though most of the Greek people in the U.S. are not Jewish because it identifies a clean plant. Today almost 90% of the food that is not meat, or shell fish is Kosher.

    11. - Our offices are in Chicago's Greektown, a neighborhood famous as "26 restaurants with one kitchen." Add in Greek bakeries, grocery stores, and a place with bizarre candles and religious artifacts, and it makes for a πολύ καλή atmosphere. Try the charcoal grilled octopus at Santorini.

    12. - Greek foods are generally excellent and I always look for them here in Denmark.

As a businessman I can however say that dealing with Greeks (in Greece) is like dealing with business neanderthals. Most European buyers are wary of them even though they agree about the very good Greek quality. Imagine, buying Greek Olive OIl through Italians because its too tough for the producer to export. Sheer idiocy.

An exception to this idiocy that I have found is Apivita which is on an international level of customer service as well as product quality.

    16. - Greek food and all the peripheral cuisines (i.e. Peloponnese, Crete, Rodos, etc) consider being among the most healthy and tasty at the same time, food in the globe. Unfortunately the effects from the “western world” somehow have affected it a bit but now with the Crisis (one of the positive effects) the old time classic Greek ingredients are getting all over us once more. That is the reason why all of a sudden the market is full of “forgotten” or even “forbidden” healthy 100% Hellenic products like Ζαία and Λευκό Καλαμπόκι, and so many other tasty and unique food products like the Green lentil (Πράσινες Φακές from Lefkadas). Last but not least, due to the crisis we have an incredible increase on the ΠΟΠ food products which it is really important…

    22. - A big problem of the Greek food processing industry is that it has to improve productivity.
The Greek food products have a very good quality but are on average about 30 per cent more expensive than comparable products from inside or outside the EU!
They have to improve their efficiency.

Secondly the Greek food processing industry has to open new markets in Russia and ex-CIS plus China. Since the European markets are saturated and have no affinity for Greek products. The Chinese and Russian markets are more than enough to absorb all Greek produce.

    23. - I had commented some time ago regarding the products. I see during these weeks that there is a discussion going on regarding the promotion, sales, difficulties and availability of Greek products. In my opinion we have to face two main issues; the one has to do with consistency, which means the more consistent products are the more trust they will have from the consumer and the more sought after they will be which in turn will give better return to the farmers who will then be able to become more competitive. The other issue has to do with the lack of any government policy not due to the interest not being there but mainly due to the chaotic bureaucratic procedures that hinder even government agencies from being efficient. So we have two wars to fight consistency / quality and bureaucracy. I will not elaborate more on this as I believe we all understand the issues – let us hope some of these comments reach the ears of the hard trying public servants.

    24. Greek food changed a lot over the past decade or so. After years of ignorance, it became trend in our own land again. New modern restaurants, new version of traditional foods, new great Chefs!
I had many time to opportunity to take out foreign visitors from the US, Europe and Asia for lunch and dinner. The vast majority was very impressed.

Still Modern Greek Food is to most people not living in Greece, like our small islands with sandy beaches - completely unknown. To my opinion this will only change, when the trend of modern Greek restaurants spread abroad. For the moment most of Greek Restaurants abroad are like the ones we had here in '70's and 80's.

    25. Generally speaking, Greek foods in my brain include several important elements: olive oil, Greek cheese, Greek yogurt, fresh vegetables, all kinds of wines and sea foods. Honey produced in Greece is also very distinctive.

The first thing come into my mind is olive oil, since it's almost used in every cooked food. Yogurt with honey is the best collocation. I didn't try it before I came to Greece. After I came back from Greece, I often eat yogurt with honey together.

I like most Greek foods. Because they are healthy, tasty, natural and nutritious. The meat roll sold in streets of Greece is the typical one. But I don't know it's from Greece or from Turky and evolved in Greece. But I think Greek foods contains too much fat and calory. Most Greek local people look over weight, we'd better to reduce part of the fact and calory. It's very impressive that all restaurants place olive oil and vinegar as seasonings on the table. Vinegar and olive oil, this cllocation is very interesting. Greek vinegar is similar to one of Chinese vinegars. I believe that the kinds of our vinegars are much more than yours. We also tried Greek sausage, fresh sausages produced in a meat shop. It's made from minced pork, tast is very fresh and light, not heavy tast at all. Believe that most foreigners can accept that sausage flavor.

Greek food products, do you mean the packed foods produced in factory ? Canned foods, foods packed in plastics bags with quality gratee period. I tried some canned foods and bread in Greece. I think they are ok.

Additionally, I like to give you some more impression. Greek people seem to cook all vegetables by stewing or boiling, all vegetables taste very soft, well-done. This is very different from Chinese cooking. We can cook vegetables by oil-stirring (stir-frying), by this way we can get fresh, juicy and crisp cooked vegetables. We also do the same thing as Greek people, stew or boild the vegetables, to get sof, well-done vegetables. Sorry, English may not translate my idea very clear. If you come to China, you will understand my idea very well.

    26. Our cuisine, methods, esthetics and overall picture has improved.
It's not what we have, but, instead what we do with it. We must work on marketing our products, as I feel we, as Greeks, have failed in letting the world know what is it that our land produces. Greece is not only Greek salad, Olive Oil, yogurt and Feta cheese.
We OWN mouth watering taste, as we realize this we will have to get the word out.

  3. I think Greek food is great .. it's when it is Greek-Style and not authentic that it becomes not so good and perhaps reflects badly on the original. not every tub of yoghurt with greek written on it is what I associate with Greek Yoghurt! Greek foods are in fashion now and understandably food suppliers/retailers are taking advantage for branding.

  6. Do you think an official FDA standard or policy specifically to label yogurt as "Greek" should be established?

For protection of "Greek" in a product or menu item name -- does it represent the way it's made, specific ingredients or that the product or ingredients originated from Greece?

By using MPCs, he says, General Mills has been able to avoid the expense of using a traditional straining process for making Greek yogurt. But as a result, he alleges, Yoplait Greek is 'neither yogurt, nor Greek'.”

  7. Greek food in Indonesia is still new. There are less than 50 Greek restaurants across the country so far. Greek food uses a lot of fresh ingredients, where you enjoy every bite out in the open (with fresh air & nice scenery). While the food scene in Indonesia (Jakarta & Bali) still prefer Thai/ Japanese/Korean/ Western/ Mexican -- those dishes that contain a lot of spices, in a mall (with nice interior & ambiance, good marketing & branding strategy and has good location)

From what I know, Greek cuisine involves a lot of fresh ingredients , simple and good - olive, cheese (feta), yoghurt , fresh leafy vegetables.
